Within the Cité de la Musique at the Parc de la Villette, this museum preserves a vast collection of historical instruments spanning several centuries and many cultures. Its galleries display richly decorated harpsichords, violins by celebrated makers, ornate wind and brass instruments and rare pieces from around the world, tracing the evolution of Western and global music. Visitors follow the exhibits with audio guides that play the instruments on view, and the museum adjoins the Philharmonie concert hall.
