In the aristocratic Faubourg Saint-Germain, this basilica was one of the first major churches in Paris built in a pure Gothic Revival style, its twin openwork spires rising gracefully above the quarter. Completed in the mid-19th century, it is dedicated to Saint Clotilde, the queen credited with the conversion of the Frankish king Clovis. The composer César Franck served here as organist and drew fame to its instrument. The soaring, luminous interior and elegant proportions make it a landmark of Left Bank religious architecture.
