This limestone civic building beside the River Lee is the seat of Cork's city government and a landmark of the southern capital. The present structure was completed in 1936, replacing an earlier hall destroyed during the burning of Cork in 1920, and its reconstruction was funded in part as a gesture of reconciliation. Built in a restrained classical style with a clock tower, it houses a grand concert and assembly hall used for civic and cultural events. Its riverside setting makes it a prominent feature of the cityscape.
