This large cobbled plaza on the north side of the Liffey has been a marketplace since the seventeenth century and once hosted a long-running horse fair. In recent decades it has been redeveloped with apartments, a cinema and cafés, though the broad expanse of setts and the tall lighting masts recall its industrial past. Nearby stands the Old Jameson Distillery, where whiskey production once took place and visitors now learn about the craft. The square hosts markets, festivals and outdoor screenings through the year.
