This Edwardian country house sits within a large wooded estate on the south side of Glasgow and was long the home of the Maxwell family. Completed in the early eighteenth century and later extended, it houses an important collection of Spanish paintings, including works by El Greco and Goya, assembled by Sir William Stirling Maxwell. The surrounding parkland contains woodland walks, a walled garden and a herd of Highland cattle. The estate also hosted the founding meeting of the National Trust for Scotland.
