This parish church, completed in 1620, was the first to be built in Edinburgh after the Reformation and stands within a historic graveyard south of the Old Town. It is closely tied to the National Covenant of 1638, which was signed here, and to the later imprisonment of Covenanters in the surrounding yard. The interior contains fine woodwork and one of the country's notable pipe organs. Nearby stands the statue of Greyfriars Bobby, the loyal dog whose story is linked to the churchyard.
