Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park

British engineers designed it and enslaved Africans built it: Brimstone Hill Fortress climbs a steep volcanic hill above the Caribbean on Saint Kitts, one of the region's best-preserved military complexes of the 17th and 18th centuries. Its ramparts tell interlocking stories — colonial rivalry, the slave trade, and the new island societies those forces created. The national park around the fortress was inscribed by UNESCO in 1999.
