Baekje Historic Areas

Eight archaeological sites in Korea's mountainous mid-west — fortresses, royal tombs, temples and a palace spread across Gongju, Buyeo and Iksan — preserve what remains of the Baekje Kingdom's later capitals, Ungjin and Sabi, between 475 and 660 CE. Baekje sat at a cultural crossroads, channelling Buddhism, architecture and craft between China, Korea and Japan, and the ruins of Mireuksa Temple and the Busosanseong fortress still speak of that exchange. UNESCO inscribed the ensemble as World Heritage in 2015.
