Kalwaria Zebrzydowska: the Mannerist Architectural and Park Landscape Complex and Pilgrimage Park

Chapels are scattered through woods and hills like scenes from a sacred play. At Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, a Mannerist ensemble of shrines devoted to the Passion of Christ and to the Virgin Mary's life was arranged in the landscape at the start of the 17th century — and the setting is virtually unchanged. Pilgrims still walk the paths, most famously during Easter week. UNESCO inscribed the pilgrimage park in 1999.
