The Colonial Transisthmian Route of Panamá

For over two centuries, the wealth of an empire crossed this narrow neck of land. From the 16th century until the mid-18th, fortified settlements, historic towns and roads across the isthmus of Panama moved goods and people between Spain, its American colonies and even the Philippines and the Canary Islands, linking the Caribbean to the Pacific. UNESCO inscribed this serial ensemble, the Colonial Transisthmian Route, in 2025.
