Boston Public Library McKim Building

Facing Copley Square, this 1895 Renaissance Revival palace was designed by Charles Follen McKim and hailed as a temple of learning. Bates Hall's barrel-vaulted reading room and the Sargent murals draw visitors as much as its shelves.
