New York Public Library Main Branch (Stephen A. Schwarzman Building)

This Beaux-Arts landmark on Fifth Avenue opened in 1911 and is guarded by the marble lions Patience and Fortitude. The vaulted Rose Main Reading Room stretches nearly two city blocks beneath ornate ceiling murals.
