Formed where Broadway crosses Sixth Avenue at 34th Street, this triangular Manhattan square takes its name from the former headquarters of the New York Herald newspaper. It is dominated by the flagship department store that helped make it a retail landmark and by a bronze memorial clock honoring the paper's founder. Pedestrian plazas added in recent years give visitors seating amid the flow of shoppers and commuters. The square sits within one of the busiest commercial districts on earth and is a fixture of the city's holiday parade route.
