Every corner of Ait-Ben-Haddou seems familiar, and no wonder — film crews have used this fortified village for decades. The ksar's earthen houses press together behind high defensive walls braced with corner towers, a textbook piece of pre-Saharan building tradition in Ouarzazate province on Morocco's old caravan country. UNESCO recognised it as World Heritage in 1987; climb to the granary at dusk for the classic view.
