Cerro Bayo

Cerro Bayo is a boutique ski resort in Argentine Patagonia, rising above the lakeside town of Villa La Angostura on the shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi. It is a smaller, quieter alternative to the big Bariloche resorts across the lake, prized for its intimate scale and spectacular views over the Andean lake district.

The mountain offers around 24 runs and a vertical of a few hundred metres, topping out near 1,780 m. The terrain is predominantly gentle to intermediate, with wide, sunny groomed slopes and forested lower runs framed by lenga beech, making it well suited to families and progressing skiers. There is some steeper terrain and off-piste higher up for the more adventurous, but the resort's appeal is its calm, uncrowded atmosphere.

The scenery is a defining draw. From the slopes, skiers look out over the deep blue of Nahuel Huapi and the surrounding volcanic peaks — one of the most beautiful settings of any South American resort.

Snow reliability follows the Patagonian pattern, dependent on Pacific storm systems across the austral winter of roughly June to September; conditions can be variable, but good snowfalls bring excellent skiing on the forested and open slopes.

Practical notes: Cerro Bayo is reached from Villa La Angostura, itself a short drive from Bariloche and its regional airport. The combination of a charming lakeside town, quiet slopes, and stunning Andean-lake views makes it a relaxed and scenic choice for those exploring Patagonia in winter rather than chasing extensive terrain or nightlife.
