The dawn of the dinosaurs is written in the desert badlands of Ischigualasto and Talampaya, adjoining parks in western Argentina whose six rock formations hold the most complete continental fossil sequence known from the Triassic, roughly 245 to 208 million years ago. Some of the earliest dinosaurs yet discovered emerged from Ischigualasto's lunar 'Valley of the Moon', alongside forerunners of mammals and fossil plants. UNESCO inscribed the 275,300-hectare ensemble in 2000.
