Panama's highest town, a patchwork of vegetable fields and flower farms draped over a volcanic valley at about 2,000 meters. It is the western trailhead for the Quetzal Trail through cloud forest toward Boquete and a base for the Chiriquí side of La Amistad's forests. Strawberry stands, race-horse farms, and chilly mornings give it a highland character unique in the country.
