Kenya Lake System in the Great Rift Valley

At times the shorelines of these Rift Valley lakes turn pink to the horizon: Bogoria, Nakuru and Elementaita together form the world's most important feeding ground for lesser flamingos and a key breeding colony for great white pelicans. The three shallow soda lakes span 32,034 hectares and support black rhino, Rothschild's giraffe and big cats around their shores. UNESCO inscribed the Kenya Lake System as natural World Heritage in 2011.
