One of the best-preserved medieval castles in the British Isles, Castle Rushen dominates the old Manx capital of Castletown with its limestone towers and working portcullis. Built for Norse kings and later expanded by the Lords of Mann, it served over the centuries as fortress, royal residence, mint and prison. Costumed displays inside walk visitors through the castle's layered history from the 13th century onward.
