A relict juniper forest clinging to the Goda Mountains above 1,500 meters, forming a rare green island in Djibouti's desert. It shelters the critically endangered Djibouti francolin, found nowhere else on earth. Cool walking trails and Afar villages contrast sharply with the baking coast an hour below.
