A hydrothermal field in the northern Danakil where acid pools, salt terraces, and mineral springs glow in yellows and greens more than 100 meters below sea level. It ranks among the hottest inhabited-area climates ever recorded and is reachable only with guided expeditions. Camel caravans still haul salt slabs across the nearby flats.
