Known as the gateway to the Sahara, Douz sits where the palm groves of the Nefzaoua oasis meet the first true dunes of the Grand Erg Oriental. Camel treks depart from the edge of town, and the International Festival of the Sahara each winter fills it with racing, music and nomad traditions.
