Fifty kilometres north of Dublin, the River Boyne bends around Europe's largest and most significant concentration of prehistoric megalithic art. The great mounds of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth anchored social, economic, religious and funerary life some five millennia ago, their carved kerbstones and passages still commanding the ridge above the river. Brú na Bóinne was inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage in 1993.
