Newgrange is a Neolithic passage tomb in the Boyne Valley of County Meath, constructed around 3200 BCE, predating Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids. A single passage leads to a cruciform chamber within a circular mound of over 200,000 tonnes of material, with the entrance aligned precisely to the rising sun at the winter solstice, flooding the inner chamber with light for approximately seventeen minutes. The mound's exterior is partially reconstructed with a retaining wall of white quartz.
