Khajuraho's temples blur the line between architecture and sculpture. Erected under the Chandella dynasty, at its height between 950 and 1050, roughly 20 survive of the original array, divided among three groups and shared between Hinduism and Jainism. The Kandariya Temple carries a profusion of carvings counted among the finest masterpieces of Indian art. The group was inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage in 1986.
