In the folds of the Pindus mountains of Epirus, the stone villages of the Zagorochoria seem grown from the land itself. Each gathers around a square shaded by a plane tree, ringed by sacred forests protected by the communities, and is joined to its neighbours by cobbled paths, stone staircases and elegant arched bridges above the Vikos and Voïdomatis waters. The Zagori Cultural Landscape was inscribed by UNESCO in 2023.
