Archaeological Sites of Mycenae and Tiryns

Mycenae and Tiryns dominated the eastern Mediterranean between the 15th and 12th centuries BC, and their cyclopean ruins still command the Argolid plain. These were the power centres of the Mycenaean civilization that fed directly into classical Greek culture — and, through Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, into three millennia of European art and literature. Both citadels were inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage in 1999.
