El Chaltén is a small village in the Los Glaciares National Park that serves as the primary trekking base for Fitz Roy and the Cerro Torre massif, two of the most technically demanding rock climbing objectives in the world. All major trails begin directly from the village edge, meaning no additional transport is required to access the mountains. The Lagunas Madre e Hija and the Mirador Laguna Torre trails offer excellent views of the Cerro Torre's ice-mushroom summit formations.
