Mendoza Province sits at the eastern foot of the central Andes, with its capital city serving as the centre of Argentina's most important wine-producing region and the base camp for climbing Aconcagua. The Luján de Cuyo and Maipú districts concentrate the densest cluster of Malbec-producing bodegas, many with vineyard restaurants open for tasting menus among the vines. The High Andes road to Chile through the Uspallata valley offers one of the most dramatic mountain-to-desert landscape transitions in South America.
