The Amazon rainforest covers roughly 5.5 million square kilometres, with its largest contiguous Brazilian expanse concentrated in Amazonas state. The ecosystem supports an estimated ten percent of all species on Earth, including river dolphins, giant otters, anacondas, and thousands of bird species. Boat journeys along the Negro and Solimões rivers, combined with guided forest walks, reveal the layered complexity of this biome at close range.
