Tijuca National Park is one of the largest urban forests in the world, covering more than 32 square kilometres within the city limits of Rio de Janeiro. Originally cleared for coffee plantations, the forest was replanted in the nineteenth century and now shelters toucans, marmosets, and hundreds of plant species. Trails lead past waterfalls such as Cascatinha Taunay and up to viewpoints including the Vista Chinesa, which frames the bay far below.
