An island on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca associated in Inca cosmology with the birth of the sun and the founding ancestors Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo. The island contains several Inca ruins including the Pilko Kaina palace on the southern tip and the Chincana labyrinthine complex on the northern end. A north-to-south trekking route crosses the island's central ridge with continuous views of snowcapped Cordillera Real peaks on the mainland.
