The Yungas Road descends 3,600 meters from the La Paz altiplano to the subtropical Yungas valley, following a narrow unpaved track with precipitous drops carved into a cloud-forested escarpment. Once a main freight route, the road has become a recreational cycling descent where operators shuttle riders to the La Cumbre pass and allow the 64-kilometer downhill journey through multiple vegetation zones. Waterfalls cross the road surface at several points as the elevation drops toward the jungle.
