A coastal desert reserve on the Pacific where arid Andean foothills meet the Humboldt Current, producing exceptional seabird and marine mammal concentrations. The Ballestas Islands, reached by boat, support nesting Humboldt penguins, Peruvian boobies, and sea lion colonies. The Paracas Peninsula's red desert meets sheer coastal cliffs, and the Candelabro geoglyph — a large figure cut into a hillside — is visible from the bay.
