A town in the Sacred Valley that preserves the spatial layout of the original Inca settlement, with kancha — residential compounds defined by stone-walled blocks — still inhabited and in use. The hilltop fortress above the town consists of massive terraced walls and a temple platform commanding the valley entrance. Ollantaytambo also serves as the principal departure point for trains to Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu.
