Lake Yojoa is Honduras's only natural lake, lying at about 630 metres elevation between two national parks—Cerro Azul Meámbar and Santa Bárbara—and framed by forested hillsides that are counted among the most bird-rich areas in Central America with over 480 recorded species. The lake's outflow feeds the Pulhapanzak waterfall, a 43-metre cascade that is one of the most visited natural features in the country. Small fishing communities line the shore offering boat excursions to reed-filled coves.
