Nahanni Butte is a small Dene community at the confluence of the South Nahanni and Liard rivers, serving as the eastern access point for Nahanni National Park Reserve's lower canyon. The isolated butte itself, a flat-topped sedimentary remnant rising above the river flats, has been a landmark for travellers and traders on the Liard River for centuries. The village maintains traditional connections to the surrounding boreal and mountain landscape managed within the park.
