Among the tallest waterfalls in Canada, Takakkaw Falls in Yoho National Park plunges 254 metres from the lip of a glacially carved hanging valley where the Daly Glacier discharges meltwater. The name derives from the Cree word for magnificent. The access road from Field is open only from late June when snow melts from its tight switchbacks, and a flat 1-kilometre trail from the day-use area leads to the base of the falls.
