Rising 702 metres above the town of Squamish, the Stawamus Chief is among the largest granite monoliths in North America and one of Canada's premier rock climbing destinations. Three distinct summits are accessible via steep hiking trails through forest and over open rock slabs, with the First Peak offering the most dramatic views of Howe Sound and the Tantalus Range. The face is visible from the highway and provides a striking photographic subject at multiple distances.
