An island in the St. Lawrence River just downstream of Quebec City, Île d'Orléans preserves much of the rural Laurentian landscape first settled by French colonists in the seventeenth century. Its six villages are connected by a single road ringing the island, lined with heritage farmhouses, orchards, and market gardens. The island is a significant agricultural producer of strawberries, apples, and maple products.
