Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge occupies the largest natural perennial wetland remaining in Maui, covering approximately 290 hectares along the island's central isthmus. The refuge is an important nesting and wintering habitat for the Hawaiian stilt and Hawaiian coot, both endangered species, and supports migrating shorebirds including Pacific golden plovers during winter months. A boardwalk trail through the coastal dunes and a perimeter road provide observation points over the pond and the adjacent beach.
