The Texas Hill Country is a dissected limestone plateau in central Texas bounded roughly by San Antonio to the south and Austin to the east, characterized by cedar and oak woodlands, spring-fed rivers, and rolling terrain carved by the Edwards Plateau's erosion. Each spring, the region becomes one of the premier wildflower destinations in North America when Indian paintbrush, bluebonnets, and other native species cover the roadsides and pastures in broad color swaths. Small towns including Fredericksburg and Kerrville anchor the region's tourism infrastructure amid vineyards and peach orchards.
