Diamond Head rises at the eastern edge of Honolulu as one of the most recognized volcanic tuff cones in the Pacific. A paved trail inside the crater climbs through a series of tunnels and spiral staircases to the summit rim at 232 meters, where the panorama takes in Waikīkī, the Honolulu skyline, and the ocean arc from Koko Head to the Koʻolau Range. Early morning light is favored by photographers for reducing haze and avoiding crowds on the trail.
