The Kancamagus Highway runs 34.5 miles through the heart of White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire, crossing the 2,855-foot Kancamagus Pass with no services and no traffic signals along its entire length. The road follows the Swift River for much of its eastern half, passing Upper and Lower Falls and multiple swimming holes accessible by short walks. During peak autumn color in early October, the highway carries some of the heaviest foliage-related traffic in New England, with overlooks at Lily Pond and Boulder Loop among the most popular pullouts.
