A major resort city in the Mojave Desert of southern Nevada, built around a concentration of large casino hotels on the Strip and in downtown Fremont Street. Beyond the casinos, Las Vegas serves as a gateway to Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire State Park, and Hoover Dam, all within an hour's drive. The city hosts world-class dining, entertainment residencies, and a substantial convention industry. Temperatures exceed 110 degrees Fahrenheit in summer, making spring and fall the most comfortable seasons for outdoor exploration.
