The largest island in the Great Salt Lake, accessible by a causeway from the eastern shore. The island maintains a free-roaming bison herd of several hundred animals, one of the oldest publicly owned bison herds in the United States. Trails cross the sagebrush-covered hills and offer views across the lake to the Wasatch Range and the salt flats to the west. The hypersaline lake waters make floating effortless and the shorelines produce vivid pink and red tones from halophilic algae.
