Hug Point State Recreation Site south of Cannon Beach is named for the tight curve of headland that early motorists hugged at low tide before the coast highway was built. The cove beach is flanked by waterfall-streaked sandstone cliffs that shelter sea caves accessible during low tide, and the carved stage-coach road cut into the base of the headland remains partially visible. The combination of layered cliff faces, tide pools, and seasonal waterfalls makes this one of the most photogenic beaches on the northern Oregon coast.
