The Marin Headlands form a network of coastal ridges and valleys immediately north of the Golden Gate Bridge within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Rolling grasslands, former military fortifications, and clifftop trails offer sweeping views of the Pacific, the San Francisco skyline, and the bridge. The area is a favored spot for hawk watching during autumn migration, when thousands of raptors funnel through the ridgelines.
