The archbishops of Olomouc kept a princely residence at Kroměříž, on the River Morava in the heart of Moravia, and made it a model of Baroque courtly living. The castle survives with unusual completeness, together with its remarkable formal gardens — rare survivors of a European princely seat kept whole through the centuries. UNESCO recognized the ensemble as a World Heritage Site in 1998, citing the rare integrity of both residence and grounds.
