A wilderness park extending from the Haast Pass in the north to the Humboldt Mountains in the south, Mount Aspiring National Park is centred on the pyramidal peak of Mount Aspiring, known in Māori as Tititea, which rises to 3,033 metres and is sometimes called the Matterhorn of the Southern Hemisphere. The Routeburn and Rees-Dart tracks pass through its valleys. The park forms part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area.
